{"id":13566,"date":"2013-09-09T15:16:26","date_gmt":"2013-09-09T09:46:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=13566"},"modified":"2013-09-09T16:51:52","modified_gmt":"2013-09-09T11:21:52","slug":"natural-history-museum-to-open-on-september-10th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/natural-history-museum-to-open-on-september-10th\/","title":{"rendered":"Renovated Natural History Museum to open on September 10th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Promising a visual treat to the visitors, the renovated <a title=\"Renovation works of the Museum to be completed before Onam\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/renovation-works-of-the-museum-to-be-completed-before-onam\/\" target=\"_blank\">Natural History Museum <\/a>here in the Museum complex in the city will be re-opened during Onam season.\u00a0 Museum will be inaugurated on September 10 by Zoo and Museum Minister P K Jayalakshmi and Minister V S Sivakumar.<\/p>\n<p>The renovation work was undertaken with the aim of making the Natural History Museum an educational centre that would appeal to school students who form a major part of their clientele.<\/p>\n<p>Marking the first phase of the renovation is ornate woodwork which extends from ceiling to floor and the elaborate polished wood. The entrance to the museum got a bright teak wood panelling that is marked by floral designs and traditional carvings of birds. Models of two big dinosaur species \u2014 the <strong>Tyrannosaurus<\/strong> and the <strong>Yangchuanosaurus<\/strong> were also restored and have been placed in museum grounds along with signboards denoting the features of the species. The construction, of the new enclosure of the \u2018<strong>permineralised<\/strong>\u2019 remains of what once stood as trees, has been carried out at a total cost of Rs. 1.62 crores.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the renovation works, Zoo will get two new <strong>14-seater buggies<\/strong>. The buggies were introduced to ensure that visitors, particularly the elderly, enjoyed their visits to the sprawling zoo. At present, the zoo operates two 8-seater battery powered cars.<\/p>\n<p>Natural History Museum has more than <strong>2,500 exhibits<\/strong>, some of which dates back from pre-historic era.
