{"id":13997,"date":"2013-09-26T13:06:59","date_gmt":"2013-09-26T07:36:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=13997"},"modified":"2013-09-26T13:06:59","modified_gmt":"2013-09-26T07:36:59","slug":"trai-moots-pan-india-number-portability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/trai-moots-pan-india-number-portability\/","title":{"rendered":"TRAI moots pan-India number portability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile phone users will be able to keep their number when they&#8217;re moving to a different state as Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recommended implementation of &#8216;<strong>Mobile Number Portability<\/strong>&#8216; across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Pan-India number portability service will be implemented within six months. Currently, MNP is available only within the same service area. When pan-India MNP is implemented fully, subscribers in Kerala, for example, will be able to port their numbers to Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and so on.<\/p>\n<p>TRAI has recommended that <strong>Department of Telecom (DoT)<\/strong> may carry out the necessary changes in the existing MNP service licence to facilitate Pan-India porting or full MNP. &#8220;The DoT may consider the request of the operators and reduce acceptance testing fee to 25% of the current fee,&#8221; TRAI said.<\/p>\n<p>When the MNP is implemented recipient network operator will issue a porting request to the MNP service provider in the zone where the number range network belongs. Once pan-India MNP is in place, users will have to dial numbers in the &#8216;+91&#8217; format which is the standard dialling format, so that the calls get connected across the country without any trouble.<\/p>\n<p>TRAI also said that, since most service providers are offering\u00a0<strong>STD call rates<\/strong> which are same as that of local call rates, the issue as to who will bear the STD charges is not a major issue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile phone users will be able to keep their number when they&#8217;re moving to a different state as Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recommended implementation of &#8216;Mobile Number Portability&#8216; across the country.
