{"id":14162,"date":"2013-10-03T12:02:25","date_gmt":"2013-10-03T06:32:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=14162"},"modified":"2013-10-03T13:36:22","modified_gmt":"2013-10-03T08:06:22","slug":"chalai-waste-management-plant-project-revived","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/chalai-waste-management-plant-project-revived\/","title":{"rendered":"Chalai waste management plant project revived"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The state government has appointed Kerala state industrial development corporation (<strong>KSIDC<\/strong>) as the nodal agency for setting up the waste management plant at Chalai.\u00a0 A decision in this regard was announced in a meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy with the corporation officials.<\/p>\n<p>Before KSIDC was assigned, the project to set up the waste treatment plant was given to <b>Loro Group<\/b>, but the company backed out from the project. KSIDC will setup a waste treatment plant in a \u2018scientific way\u2019 at Chalai, such that it will not disturb the environment and residents.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Integrated municipal solid waste-to-energy plant\u2019 will come up on the 2 acres acre land owned by TRIDA along the <b>Chalai-Attakulangara Bypass<\/b>. The plant will generate <b>3.2 mega watts<\/b> of electricity by processing 35 tonnes of waste per day. There would be no leachate or other residual waste, ash, air or water pollution after the processing of solid waste. The plant would be designed in such a way as to not emit odour. Garbage would be taken to the plant in covered trucks which would then be hosed down before leaving the facility.<\/p>\n<p>The state government will also give financial assistance for setting up <strong>62 biogas plants<\/strong> and <strong>30 bio-mechanical compost units<\/strong> at various locations in the city. The government will also consider setting up similar waste treatment plants modelled on Chalai at 4 other places in the city.
