\u2018She-taxi\u2019<\/strong><\/em>, the cab service exclusively for women will be rolled out in Trivandrum from next month.\u00a0The pilot project will be inaugurated on\u00a019th Nov 2013 at Kanakakunnu, Trivandrum.<\/strong> Ministers, Govt. officials, renowned women personalities, celebrities will attend the programme.<\/p>\n

The 24-hour \u2018She-taxi\u2019\u00a0 service offered by the government\u2019s \u2018Gender Park\u2019 initiative and\u00a0 State Social Welfare Department\u2019s aims to offer a safe transport alternative for women on the move.<\/p>\n

As a first phase 25 cars painted in white, streaked with pink, will be launched in Trivandrum by November 19th. While providing a safe transport for women, the Gender Park also seeks to promote women entrepreneurs capable of managing the service. The cabs will have women drivers.<\/p>\n

\"She-Taxi<\/p>\n

Maruti<\/a> is chosen for She-Taxi on the basis of the Expression of Interest invited by the government. The car will have GPS trackers and emergency switches for drivers and passengers to send a signal to the control rooms working round the clock. The system will be upgraded to have safety maps signalling emergency response centres. Technopark<\/a> based Rain Concert Technologies<\/a> will be in charge of the fleet management and safety services.<\/p>\n

Currently, \u2018Gender Park\u2019 officials are seeking beneficiaries who will be given a vehicle on loan at 8% interest rate over a repayment period of 6 years. Kerala State Women Development Corporation<\/a> will be in charge of giving financial support to women who want to become part of this fleet.<\/p>\n

Based on the success of the pilot project in Trivandrum, the She-Taxi service would be expanded to 100 cars in one city and will be implemented in Kochi and Kozhikode too.<\/p>\n
