Flex boards, encroachment on footpath by street vendors, misuse of lampposts, traffic signposts and parking of vehicle on the footpaths are proliferating in the city.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Officials to clear out all unauthorized structures on footpaths\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/officials-to-clear-out-all-unauthorized-structures-on-footpaths\/\" target=\"_blank\">TRDCL<\/a>, the company behind the road improvement project has approached the Trivandrum District Collector and the City Police Commissioner seeking action against encroachers and those misusing roads.<\/p>\n<p>Flex boards erected by political parties and some social organisations on road corridors and traffic islands, signal posts, and even bus shelters on the 42-km stretch accounts for a major share of encroachment. These flex boards, flags, and publicity materials continue to stay there even after the event.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing indefinite strike launched by the <a title=\"DYFI\u2019s \u2018Art Work\u2019 cost TRDCL Rs 1 Crore\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/dyfi-art-work-cost-trdcl-rs-1-crore\/\" target=\"_blank\">LDF <\/a>near the landscaped garden on the side of the Martyr\u2019s Column at Palayam had caused damage to the garden. According to the agreement, LDF have to a pay a lease amount of Rs 6000\/- per day to TRDCL for using the garden. However, the party was not paying the lease amount. The amount due was over <strong>Rs.6.60 lakh<\/strong> despite many notices, according to TRDCL.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the second-hand book-sellers located at Ayurveda College and at Kerala University; fish vendors near Kuravankonam and Upidamoodu junctions; tender coconut vendors in Fort, Peroorkada, Sasthamangalam, and Murinjapalam and the kiosks in front of the DCC office at Nandavanam, near the General Post Office, Kowdiar Junction Post Office and the Museum police station were misusing the roads.<\/p>\n<p>As per rules, ads and posters, posing hindrances to pedestrians or motorists, is not allowed on the roads. TRDCL and the government were in-charge to ensure that city roads were free of all encroachments. The company had a special team to remove such illegal flex boards, advertisements, and encroachments.
