City Police to install Face-recognition system at Padmanabhaswamy temple<\/a><\/p>\nThe decision to install face-recognition technology at every major location in Trivandrum was taken by the Police last May. Earlier it was decided to install the technology at entry and exit points of strategic places such as airports, railway stations, stadiums and other public places. The technology will be used to screen suspects with criminal or terror links. The system will be first installed at Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple and later at other locations.<\/p>\n
Face recognition technology will allow law enforces to track and capture single or multiple images of faces of a person when they go through access-controlled channels covered from all angles with cameras. The captured images are compared with the police mug shots of suspects, wanted persons, and those categorised as \u201cbarred or unwelcome guests\u201d stored in the criminal database of the State and Central law-enforcement agencies. If there is a match, then the system will automatically issue an alert, all in real time. Law enforces say that, the suspects cannot avoid being detected by the system by varying one\u2019s facial expressions or altering posture or even by wearing glasses. Only way to evade the system is to cover one’s face entirely which is impractical.<\/p>\n
Despite having so many advantages, the government is yet to give the nod for the installation of face-recognition system. Police will go ahead with the proposal, only after receiving the government approval. Police hope that, the system will be in place as soon as possible as it will become a force multiplier for law-enforcers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
