{"id":15052,"date":"2013-11-29T12:59:48","date_gmt":"2013-11-29T07:29:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=15052"},"modified":"2013-11-29T15:43:13","modified_gmt":"2013-11-29T10:13:13","slug":"suburban-rail-corridor-preliminary-agreement-signed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/suburban-rail-corridor-preliminary-agreement-signed\/","title":{"rendered":"Suburban Rail Corridor: Preliminary agreement signed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To revolutionize suburban commuting in the state, state government had signed a preliminary agreement with Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation to implement the <strong>Suburban Rail Corridor on Trivandrum-Haripad route.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ten trains, each with 7 bogies will transport passengers back and forth between Trivandrum-Chengannur-Harippad section. Suburban Corridor is modelled on the lines of the Mumbai Suburban Rail where around 3,000 suburban trains ply every day. \u00a0In the first stage, project will cover Trivandrum-Chenganoor stretch within two years which will be extended up to Calicut within four years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-15060\" alt=\"Suburban Rail Corridor\" src=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/files\/2013\/11\/Suburban-Rail-Corridor.jpg\" width=\"572\" height=\"280\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The project which is estimated to cost Rs.3,000 crore will be shared by the state government and MRVC on a fifty-fifty basis. It has also been decided to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to implement the project. The State will also look into the possibility of getting a World Bank loan for the project. Automatic signaling system, modernisation of the stations, upgrade of the level-crossings, and foot and road over bridges will also be included in the SPV.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike <a title=\"Trivandrum Monorail project may get Cabinet approval tomorrow\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/trivandrum-monorail-project-may-get-cabinet-approval-tomorrow\/\" target=\"_blank\">metro rail project<\/a>, the suburban rail corridor can be completed without acquiring a single cent of land. The project when completed will reduce the transit time between Trivandrum and Kochi to just about 2hours.
