There aren’t a lot of movies which stays with our heart. Hope next year we all get a better experience”, this was the response of most of the delegates who attended IFFK 2013. This festival got affected by a lot of controversies starting with the pass issuing to film marketing section. Well, controversies are always associated with a film festival. However, the films screened at the festival usually camouflage these controversies. This year that didn’t happen too!

Most of the delegates complained about the quality of films screened this year. The majority of the films failed to create an impact for the audience. However, for the first timers, IFFK happens to be an interesting and unforgettable experience. If asked, it will be very easy to pick the best films of IFFK 2013. Delegates were in awe of ‘Story Teller’, which got screened in the competition section. Many believe that this film will grab the top honor this year. ‘Parviz’, ‘Arabani’, ‘Capturing Dad’ etc. from the competition section also gained praise of the delegates. ‘The Coffin Maker’ by Veena Bakshi was an enchanting experience for the viewers. They were moved by the charm of the film and leading actor Nasaruddin Shah. ‘Fandry’ by Nagraj Manjule, which highlighted the problems faced by lower caste people is surely one of the best films this year. ‘The Rocket’, ‘Television’, ‘Ana Arabia’ , Harmony Lesson’, ‘Blue is the warmest color’, ‘Ilo Ilo’, ‘Priest’s Children’, ‘The missing picture’, ‘Vara: A blessing’ gained the attention of the audience. Among these, ‘The Rocket’ and ‘Television’ wowed the audience.

As expected, ‘Moebius’ by Kim Ki Duk got a record screening attendance. The last 3 days of the festival got completely focused on him. Sadly, Malayalam films couldn’t make much impact like the previous years. Films of Sukumari, Dakshinamoorthy, Prem Nazir, Raghavan Master, Augustine, Konnanattu and Rituparno Ghosh were screened in the Homage section. The closing ceremony of the festival will take place at Nishagandhi today from 6PM. Even though the festival was affected by a lot of controversies, the delegates and the guests had a wonderful time in the city. Many of the guests are in love with the city and IFFK. All the celebration ends today. However, it’s the beginning of another one. Let’s hope that the 19th edition of IFFK will be a more thrilling one and free to controversies.
