Adding to the woes, the major stakeholders in the transport sector KSRTC is turning a blind eye to the plight of thousands of commuters.<\/p>\n<p>The situation turns grave after 9 pm, since there are very few buses that operate at night. Services on many routes are now cancelled owing to the lack of vehicles, as many busses are used for special Sabarimala services. There are 357 buses operating as Sabarimala special services. Shortage of staff, especially conductors is another reason for cancellation of many services.<\/p>\n<p>Suburban areas are most suffering from the cutting down of services. Alternative transport services such as autorickshaws are also difficult to catch during these night time. Another problem cited by the commuters is that, most of the buses do not keep the schedule and the commuters have to wait for hours to catch a bus.<\/p>\n<p>KSRTC is reluctant to begin night services, since such services will not bring any profit if normal ticket fares are charged. The 110 private buses that operate in the city also do not conduct any service after 10 pm. The solution is to bring, a nominal increase in the fare structure during night hours. Many cities in the country follow this practise. It will be beneficial to people who arrive at the city late at night or early in the morning in trains and buses.<\/p>\n<p>However, KSRTC say that, there is no such issue of limiting the services and have restored most of the services which were scaled down, after the Supreme Court ruling on diesel subsidy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#EnteThiruvananthapuram: As dusk falls, many people working late night jobs such as those in the medical field and IT sector finds it hard to catch a bus.
