The project includes parallel taxiway, an isolation bay, an aerobridge, an apron in the international terminal, a \u2018turning pad,\u2019 and expansion of the security hold area in the domestic terminal.<\/p>\n<p>The parallel taxiway which is being constructed at a cost of Rs70 crore, will allow aircrafts landing here to clear the runway fast, decreasing the runway occupancy time. At present, the runway occupancy of the aircraft is 8 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Presently, parallel taxiway has a length of 543 metre extending from runway to the new terminal. In addition to this, a 1,595-metre-long parallel taxiway will be set up. Two \u2018turning pads\u2019 will come up on the sides of the Runway 14 and 32 at a cost of Rs.15.77 crore. It will allow medium aircraft to reach the parking bays without having to go to the end of the runway. It will further reduce the runway occupancy time.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be an isolation bay with an area of 18,543Sq.m for parking aircraft in case they need to be isolated during emergencies such as bomb threat. The development project of the Trivandrum International Airport also includes construction of a fourth aerobridge at a cost of Rs.20.98 crore. The additional aerobridge will decongest the rush during peak hours.<\/p>\n<p>In the domestic terminal, the security hold area is to be expanded at a cost of Rs.10.36 crore.
