Finally, Kerala Tourism honored with the highest honor! United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has bestowed our state with the World Tourism Award last week at a function held at Madrid. The award was given for Kerala\u2019s contribution in the field of sustainable tourism. This is the first ever time that India is getting such a recognition.<\/p>\n
Kerala Tourism was recognized for its outstanding project \u2018Responsible Tourism\u2019 in Kumarakom. The project was responsible for linking the public with government departments and hospitality industry, resulting in the growth of the localities around by preserving eco-friendly tourism. Almost 156 countries hold membership in UNWTO, 6 associate members and 400 partners representing tourism departments and associations, educational institutions, private sector agencies etc.<\/p>\n
The \u2018Responsible Tourism<\/strong>\u2019 project was launched in 2008 and its objectives include accomplishing sustainable tourism by creating employment in a large scale and promoting ec0-tourism activities. The project involves association of Grama Panchayat, District Tourism Promotion Council, Kudumbasree, Agriculture and Health departments and the local bodies. Tourism Minister Shri A P Anil Kumar expressed his great happiness on this honor.
