The High speed rail project has already been approved by the Planning Commission.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed joint-venture corporation will announce bullet trains for seven pair of destinations. Trivandrum- Hyderabad route is one among the seven routes where High-speed corridor is proposed. Other 6 routes include Mumbai-Ahmadabad corridor, Amritsar-New Delhi-Patna, New Delhi-Jodhpur, Howrah-Haldia and Mumbai-Pune.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed bullet train with a speed of 300 km per hour would drastically bring down the travel time of passengers. India has opted for the Japanese Shinkansen technology over competing models including the Chinese. Each of these projects cost over Rs 30,000 crore and is beyond the capacity of the rail ministry to finance. The joint venture corporation will finance and run the high speed trains.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier two high speed rail corridors were proposed for Trivandrum: Trivandrum\u2013Mangalore route with Phase I consist of the high speed rail link Trivandrum to Kochi and Chennai \u2013 Trivandrum Corridor. While the Mangalore-Trivandrum stretch would cost Rs 1.18 lakh crore, the Trivandrum-Kochi stretch was estimated to cost around Rs 40,000 crore. 80% of the cost will be funded by JICA and the remaining 20% by the State and Central governments.
