Majority of the short film makers are hesitant to take on bold subjects. This may be due to the lack of confidence or qualms over viewer acceptance. However, \u2018Lipstick\u2019 short film by Khais Millen<\/strong> is really a daring attempt which may change the perception of short films and short film makers. The short film bagged the awards for Best Movie, Best Direction and Best Actor in the recently concluded \u2018Festellen Short Film Festiva<\/strong>l\u2019 in Bangalore.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The main protagonist Shyam undergoes sexual abuse at an age of 8 from Krishnan. Even 20 years after this incident, Shyam is only committed to Krishnan in this life and hopes to lead a life with him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The short film scripted & directed by Khais Millen<\/strong> deals with the issue of sexuality in our society. The main protagonist Shyam undergoes sexual abuse at an age of 8 from Krishnan, another main character of this short film. Even 20 years after this incident, Shyam is only committed to Krishnan in this life and hopes to lead a life with him. Krishnan, on the other hand, is married now, but leads a solitary life with his interests and fantasies. The short film is about the journey of Shyam to visit Krishnan and the harsh realities he faces then.<\/p>\n

The short film is not just about the concept of homosexuality. It deals with the changing phases of sexuality in our society<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cThe film got high prominence as now Supreme Court has declared homosexuality a criminal offence recently. We are neither supporting this concept nor disagreeing to this. All we want is that the film should spark a talk on this topic. They too have their freedom right<\/i><\/strong>\u201d, adds Khais Millen. The film is produced by Soji Khais Millen. Jinu Kuttikkat and Prem Sankar essays the role of Shyam and Krishnan respectively. The film was shot using RED, Canon 5D and Canon 6D cameras at locations like Kovalam, Wayanad, Batheri, Kalpetta etc. Sound Design is done by N Harikumar, Music & BGM by Binoop Nair, Cinematography by Rajesh Rethnas, Makeup by Pradeep Rangan, and Art Direction by Saburam.<\/p>\n

” I could have released this one as a 90-minute feature film, but our audience won\u2019t accept it. ‘Papilio Buddha’\u00a0is an example for that!\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cThe film was well received by the audience at Bangalore. The response was really overwhelming as many raised eyebrows during postproduction stage regarding the content and visualisation of a nude scene between Shyam and Krishnan. However, the audience there termed the film as \u201cbold\u201d and that was really an honour. I could have released this one as a 90-minute feature film, but our audience won\u2019t accept it. \u201cPapilio Buddha<\/a>\u201d is an example for that!\u201d<\/i> says Khais when asked about the risk of acceptance from audience.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
