Using the conventional method it will take days for the doctor to check whether patients coming with stomach pain have internal bleeding. Now with the new treatment unit, doctors can easily detect any bleeding inside.<\/p>\n<p>Setup at a cost of Rs1.60 crore, Gastrointestinal bleeding ICU will function under the Gastroenterology department of Medical College. The unit will function round-the-clock and will have 20 beds and 4 ventilators. Apart from these, the new unit is equipped with Cardiac Monitors, Infusion pumps, ECG etc. There is also a 24-hours Endoscopic unit. The unit will have specially trained nurses and related personnels.<\/p>\n<p>Numbers of people with gastrointestinal bleeding are increasing in the state. Unhealthy lifestyle is cited as the main reason for the problem. People suffering from liver diseases, heart conditions and cancer patients also have high risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Gastrointestinal bleeding have high mortality rate.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"\u2018Precise Eye Speciality Care\u2019: Offering the best service for common people\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/precise-eye-speciality-care-offering-the-best-service-for-common-people\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Precise Eye Speciality Care\u2019: Offering the best service for common people<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 5000 people come to Medical College in Trivandrum for the treatment. With the new ICU at Medical College, mortality rate can be reduced to 10 to 15%. Gastrointestinal bleeding unit is formed with the co-operation of Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society.
