The whole network in the Thampanoor-Overbridge area was affected, when an optic-fibre cable connecting the network and a post were damaged during a construction work carried out by the Railways. Cameras at Vellayambalam and Pazhavangadi area are also dead.<\/p>\n<p>Keltron, the agency who installed the surveillance cameras was in charge of the maintenance. However Home Department who was supposed to allocate funds for the maintenance failed to come into an annual maintenance contract with Keltron. This caused the Keltron to stop all its maintenance activities.<\/p>\n<p>The cameras that operate round-the-clock cost Rs 1 lakh each and have a warranty period of 3 years. Keltron carried out maintenance for one and a half year after the warranty period. Keltron officials say that, they had approached the Home Department but no action was taken in this regard. Keltron also says that they only charge a minimal fee for maintenance which is only Rs6500 per camera.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hi-tech surveillance system: 100 Cameras to monitor speedsters\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/hi-tech-surveillance-system-100-cameras-to-monitor-speedsters\/\" target=\"_blank\">Surveillance cameras<\/a> have been installed in almost every junction the city. These public security cameras provide police with useful videotaped evidence to any criminal activity.
