Trivandrum City is all set to welcome this year\u2019s Attukal Pongala – the world\u2019s largest annual congregation of women for a religious function. City Corporation and the police have made necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of Pongala.<\/p>\n
To avoid unexpected water disruption owing to multiple pipe-bursts that happened last year, corporation has taken adequate steps. As many as eight water Lorries and 25 water tanks have been deployed to avoid water shortage. Corporation, CRPF and KWA volunteers have been assigned with the duty of the timely refilling of water tanks.<\/p>\n
Fifty new and 35 old toilets along with temporary toilets and mobile toilets have been installed around the temple and on the parking ground. As many as 35 mobile toilets will be installed in places like Gandhi Park and East Fort where more crowds is expected.<\/p>\n
For smooth transportation KSRTC has been asked to operate special services including long-distance services along with the chain services for devotees to the temple on the festival days. Southern Railway will run special trains, introduce additional coaches on passenger trains and will provide additional stoppages for express trains at smaller stations, on February 15 and 16.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the City Police have planned elaborate security arrangements for the smooth conduct of Attukal Pongala on Sunday.\u00a0 As many as 3,000 policemen and 600 women constables would be deployed for the festival. CCTV cameras would be installed to monitor the crowd movement and the places in and around the temple during the Pongala festival. As part of the security, a 24-hour control room manned by senior police officials will be opened in the temple.<\/p>\n
108 Ambulance Service will be available during the Pongala offering and arrangements have also been made for obtaining the services of the doctors at General Hospital in case of any emergency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
