{"id":16781,"date":"2014-03-02T17:40:55","date_gmt":"2014-03-02T12:10:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=16781"},"modified":"2014-03-02T17:40:55","modified_gmt":"2014-03-02T12:10:55","slug":"trivandrum-to-get-hydro-electric-power-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/trivandrum-to-get-hydro-electric-power-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"Trivandrum to get hydro-electric power plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If all goes well, power-starved capital city will soon get a power plant at Kalakkayam waterfalls, near Palode.<\/p>\n<p>Energy Management Centre, a department under the State Department of Power has come up with a plan to setup a mini hydro-electric power plant with a capacity of 750 kilowatt at Kalakkayam waterfalls, inside the Brymore estate, near Palode.\u00a0 The mini power plant can generate 2 million units every year.<\/p>\n<p>Kerala State Electricity Board has conducted a detailed investigation on the feasibility of the project and the total cost of the project is expected to be Rs 6 Crore. The power plant will be constructed with minimum environmental impact and also with the active involvement of the Forest Department.<\/p>\n<p>According to the preliminary estimation, only 1 hectare of forest land will be needed to setup the power plant minimising the deforestation. \u00a0The mini hydro-electric power plant is envisaged as a run-of-the-river project a type of hydro-electric power plant where no water storage is needed. Since only a minimum area was required for the power plant, the project need not be sent to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests for approval.<\/p>\n<p>Energy Management Centre has approached NABARD to fund the project.
