{"id":16898,"date":"2014-02-25T21:55:53","date_gmt":"2014-02-25T16:25:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=16898"},"modified":"2014-02-25T21:55:53","modified_gmt":"2014-02-25T16:25:53","slug":"rs5-crore-project-to-save-citys-polluted-rivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/rs5-crore-project-to-save-citys-polluted-rivers\/","title":{"rendered":"5 Crore project to save Trivandrum City&#8217;s polluted rivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>#EnteThiruvananthapuram:<\/strong> <\/em>Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) has joined hands with TRIDA to pilot a project aimed at reviving the polluted Karamana-Killi River system.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/in-flight-kitchen-from-kudumbashree\/\" target=\"_blank\">In-flight Kitchen from Kudumbashree<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Karamana-Killi River Scientific Management Project estimated to cost around Rs 5 crore, will be implemented along six kilometres of the Killi River, from Myladikkadavu to Airanimuttam in the first phase. Slabs will be laid over the drains in the city and silt traps will be installed between Mailadikadavu and Iranimuttom. A spillway will be built at Mailadikadavu to increase water flow in the Killiyar during summer.<\/p>\n<p>To make clear water available, rejuvenation of Thiruvallom canal will be carried out by increasing the depth of the canal and controlling the water flow by building a spillway on both sides. Irrigation department will undertake both of these works. To prevent dumping of waste into the river, surveillance cameras would be installed in the project area. Sewage lines will be built to prevent sewage inflow from houses around Killipalam into the river. Apart from these a recycling unit to purify the water from the dhobi ghats is also planned.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Biodiversity Board aims to setup a butterfly-biodiversity park between Mailadikadavu and Killipalam. Aimed at the upkeep of the river, an awareness campaign will be conducted and residents\u2019 associations would be roped in for the purpose.<\/p>\n<p>The State Government had allotted a sum of Rs5 crore for the project.<strong> Minister for Water Resources P J Joseph will inaugurate the project at Valyasala-Nandavanam, near Killipalam on February 26.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#EnteThiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) has joined hands with TRIDA to pilot a project aimed at reviving the polluted Karamana-Killi River system.
