#EnteThiruvananthapuram:<\/strong><\/em> Marina<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s love for cake baking started during her childhood when her mom used to bake some delicious cakes. After her studies she started working in Technopark with Paragon Biomedical as Financial Analyst. After leaving that job she moved to Bangalore. She was never interested in getting back to a job. All she loved was to do something of her own. She always wanted to start something related to food. Drawing inspiration for her mom, she started baking cakes.<\/p>\n

At first, she started making cupcakes and sells it. \u201cAs like any new venture, I had to struggle a lot at the beginning. The cupcakes slowly got popular. As time passed, people started asking me for recipes. That\u2019s when the idea of cake baking class aroused in me<\/i>\u201d, says Marina.<\/p>\n

5 years into this field, Marina is really a maestro in the art of cake baking.<\/strong> She conducts day-to-day classes at her home in Bangalore. Once in a month she conducts classes at Trivandrum and Hyderabad. She conducts both baking and cooking classes at Bangalore. The cooking classes are even attended by foreigners who love to cook Indian cuisines. However, she affirms that classes in Trivandrum are so special to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get the best response from people here.<\/strong> My last class here was based on Italian dishes and it was attended by around 25 people. I get very happy when my old students reappear when I introduce new classes here. Even some of my students are selling there and their news comes in newspapers and all. I feel so proud and happy when I see it. Whatever be the field, I ask my students to start something of their own. That\u2019s when I realise that my decision was absolutely right! All these reasons motivate me to be back there frequently<\/i>\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n

Currently, she is very busy with her classes. However, she plans to start taking orders for wedding cakes. Baking classes in Trivandrum are carried out at weekends at Adrak Hotel. She also takes cooking classes on Friday at her residence in Trivandrum. She is of the opinion that cheese cakes are getting more popular here. One of her recent classes featured Barbie Doll cake making, Dessert making etc. Individual classes are being carried out in Bangalore. Her classes feature 4 sections: Basic level cake baking, Intermediate level, Advanced level and Icing and cake Decoration. She lists the classes schedule on her Facebook page during weekends and the students can register according to that. She got separate pages for the three cities and the class schedules are updated regularly. Basic level covers baking of cupcakes, teacake etc. Intermediate level deals with baking of cakes like Blackforest, Pineapple pastry etc. Advanced level deals with baking of exotic cakes like Truffle cake, Checkered cake etc. Other than baking, she teaches about icing, making chocolates, brownies etc.<\/p>\n

She insists that every class of her is a workshop, not a demo on how to bake!<\/strong> The participating students will get the opportunity to work from the scratch. This really helps them to make the cake with perfection when they try it again too. Another highlight is that the students won\u2019t have to bring any materials to the class, she will providing whatever is required for you. She attributes her success to husband and her mom.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout the support of my husband and mom, I won\u2019t have been this successful. My husband urged me to follow the passion after quitting the job. Mom was always inspiring and still gives me the best ideas. I\u2019m so grateful to them<\/i>\u201d, she adds.<\/p>\n

The basic level classes are conducted at Rs 950\/class, the intermediate classes are charged Rs 1500\/class, Rs 1800\/class for the advanced level and Rs 2900 for icing classes. Toolkit will be provided by her for the icing classes. Adding different type of cuisines to the classes is in her list of immediate plans. Some years from now, she loves to start an academy in Trivandrum. \u201cChase your passions. To get successful, it requires time and you need the patience. If you have the heart to chase your passions, you will definitely succeed. Of course, time, support and motivation matters a lot. There will be many to discourage when you are into something. Don\u2019t get disheartened, stay focussed<\/i>\u201d, says Marina to everyone who aims to do something of their own.
