Latha Krishna was one of the top contestants of Amrita TV\u2019s Superstar Global<\/a>. Startting her career with \u2018Sufi Parnja Kadha<\/strong>\u2019, she went onto do so many stage shows and Kacheri\u2019s later. Now, she is getting busy as a playback singer in South Indian films.<\/p>\n

Into music?<\/h3>\n

Latha Krishna hails from musical family. Her family\u2019s connection with music dates years back. Her great grandfather was a musician in Mysore Palace. Her mother A Saraswathi is an A-grade artist in All India Radio. It is from her mother she took her first music lessons. \u201cI never had to go behind music as it always reverberated in my home<\/i>\u201d, she says about her love for music.<\/p>\n

\u2018Superstar\u2019 experience!<\/h3>\n

Latha rose into the limelight through Amrita TV\u2019s reality show \u2018Superstar Global\u2019. She even reached the top 6 of the competition. She affirms that participating in the show one of the best learning experiences of her life. \u201cI was more into Carnatic music till participating in this show. The comments and reviews from M Jayachandran Sir and Unni Menon Sir have really helped in improving my singing<\/i>\u201d. She got the chance to do many stage shows with them after Superstar Global got over. \u201cI was fortunate to do many stage shows in India and abroad. One of the greatest experiences was sharing the stage with Hariharan Sir. It was a dream come true<\/i>\u201d, she says proudly. Recently, she did shows in USA and Africa with KS Chitra.<\/p>\n

As playback singer?<\/h3>\n

\u201cI was first invited to sing chorus for the film \u2018Upadeshiyude Makan\u2019. My first song was for the movie \u2018Sufi Paranja Kadha\u2019. I was first asked to sing the track version, but Mohan Sithara Sir made it the final version. The song \u2018Sayam Sandhye\u2019 was so melancholic and is always special to my heart<\/i>\u201d, she says. She then went onto sing \u2018Pinne Pinne\u2019 for the movie Shikkar with KJ Yesudas and sang a song for the movie Nallavan. For the last couple of years she was very busy with stage shows. After shifting to Chennai she has become more active in playback singing and has a list of films in her kitty. She is getting busy in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu industries. She has sung for Alby\u2019s \u2018Starring Pournami\u2019, recorded 4 songs for the film \u2018Vizha\u2019 by James Vasanthan, sung in Tamil movie \u2018Santhithen Unnai\u2019, a duet with Vijay Prakash for the Telugu version of Thalivaa etc.<\/p>\n

New age reality shows?<\/h3>\n

She is not an ardent reality show viewer. However, she says that reality shows are still producing some good singers. She believes that the quality level of participants is still high. However, the repetition of rounds and songs has made these unpopular. \u201cNothing innovative is being introduced into reality shows<\/i><\/strong>\u201d, she adds.<\/p>\n

Influences?<\/h4>\n

The major influence in her life is her mother and sister Kala. She insists that her teachers have also been the biggest influence and strength. She studied music for 4 years under the guidance of Trivandrum R Mahadevan. Mahadevan being a composer has played a great role in furnishing her music talent. \u201cSir has really helped me in improving singing techniques and clearing the negatives. I can never forget my teacher Parassala Ponnammal. Their dedication for music is something we should follow in life. I can\u2019t wrap this question without mentioning Chitra chechi\u2019s name. Her life is truly an inspiration. I got around 45 days to spend with her in the recent tour. That will remain as one of the most unforgettable moments of my life<\/i>\u201d, she says proudly. She even acknowledges the fact that Sadhana Sargam has really inspired her singing style.<\/p>\n

Family is everything!<\/h4>\n

No one can excel without the support of family. In Latha\u2019s case its cent percent correct. Her father was an architect. She did her schooling in Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vazhuthacaud and graduation from Chand Academy, Trivandrum. Currently, she is pursuing PG in Music from Madras University. \u201cMy sister Kala is my greatest supporter and critic. Even though she sings, she is more into dance and all. She studied Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattom from Dr Neena Prasad. She is passionate about movies. She recently acted with Nayanthara in the movie Ithu Kathirvelan Kadhal<\/i>\u201d, adds happily.<\/p>\n

Future plans?<\/h4>\n

\u201cI plan to continue learning Carnatic music. Want to get more active in Kacheri\u2019s. As I\u2019m getting more opportunities in playback singing, I hope to improve in it too<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn love with Trivandrum\u201d<\/h5>\n

Trivandrum is her most favourite city. \u201cThe plus points of Trivandrum are realised when we go to other places<\/strong>. I was born and brought up in the Agrahara here. I really love the culture and tradition we follow there; it\u2019s the best when compared to any other place in India. Moreover, all my friends are there.
