#EnteThiruvananthapuram:<\/strong> <\/em>Does your daughter work in second shift? It\u2019s obvious that you will be hell tensed till she reaches home. The recent issues of assault against women are the major reason behind that. What have we done? Still women are being abused everyday! To resolve this issue city based firm Teknika Solutions has come with up with an app for the safety of women. The app is called \u2018Yatramitr\u2019 and idea has been\u00a0developed by Sooraj S Nair, Nadeer Mohammed and Sumayya M Sharief, 2009 batch pass outs of Marian Engineering College, Trivandrum.<\/strong> The\u00a0app is developed by\u00a0Lal Prakash, who spend a lot of time in studying the new software and contributed wholeheartedly in completing this project. He took part in forums to solve the glitches in our software and is now a reputed member in tech forums, under the guidance of Sooraj.\u00a0\u201cSumayya work in the second shift and leaves her office by\u00a09PM. Her parents will be so worried till she reaches the hostel safely. This is the case with majority of the parents here. Girls working in these shifts face many such problems. No girl in India can travel with 100% safety after\u00a09PM\u00a0or so. This needs to change and from that the idea of our app was generated<\/i>\u201d, says Sooraj.<\/p>\n

Yatramitr is an Andriod (version 3.0 and above) app which is based on Dynamic GPS and GPRS. The user has to first register in the app with her mobile number and desired password. Whenever she gets in to a cab\/auto at late night, parents\/family members can go to Yatramitr website and login using the mobile number and password. From that point the user\u2019s location can be constantly traced. Family can easily trace the route she is travelling. The user has the provision to enter the number of vehicle she is travelling in the app and that number can be viewed in the website. User an add up to three numbers of friends\/family so that she can send pre-set message to all three by ‘Panic\/Danger’ button when a danger situation is encountered. The message will also update her current location.<\/p>\n

The app is just not meant for women safety alone. This app also features Dynamic GPS and GPRS-based auto-fare calculator.<\/strong> “Majority of the auto drivers are good, but a few bad among them can spoil everyone\u2019s name.\u00a0 In our city, some of the auto drivers charges mercilessly, especially to those who are unfamiliar with Trivandrum. Our app can help anyone in getting the route info, fares and all<\/i>“, adds Sooraj. The app will notify about the route that the driver has taken, cross checks the distance and gives the fare details. Even if the auto-rickshaw meter is faulty, you can calculate the fare through the meter provided in the app.\u00a0The benefit of this app is that you can determine the rate for any route at anytime using this app.<\/strong> All you have to give is the source and destination, it will show the distance and the fare for the entered route. The app is provided with auto identification feature of current location and all. The current location will be traced using GPS and once the location is provided the app automatically displays the best route and the alternative routes. The location and distance calculation will be accurate.<\/p>\n

The app will also provide information on night-time fare. The app also gives information on the nearest police station, hospitals, bus stands, restaurants, railway station etc. As soon as the app was launched, they got the invitation to present it at a conference held at SAP Labs, Bangalore. The app has been getting good responses from everywhere. “The app was well received at the conference held in Bangalore. It\u2019s getting good response from the users and great rating in the Play Store. Many NGO\u2019s are supporting our app and one NGO from SriLanka even gave a hash tag (<\/i>#HeForShe –\u00a0Women’s safety is important! And keeping her at home isn’t the solution!) for it. The app can be used anywhere in India with minor changes in settings. Now the app is being run on a testing basis. We will be soon adding many features to the app and even aims at developing it for other platforms based on the response<\/i>“, adds a proud Sooraj.<\/p>\n
