The proposed plant will have a capacity of 115-million litres a day (MLD) and will serve as a second source for drinking water to the city.<\/p>\n<p>The plant will source water from Neyyar in the Aruvikkara-Maranalloor panchayat limits. 100 mld will be supplied to the city while 5 mld each will be given to Maranalloor, Malayinkeezhu, and Vilappil-Vilavoorkal areas.<\/p>\n<p>The new drinking water treatment project includes the construction of water streams to pump water to the treatment plant located at Malavila, to utilize excess water during the monsoon season. A 16.50 km long transmission line will be laid using 1,300-mm mild steel pipeline. The treated water will be supplied to PTP Nagar reservoir through Malavila-Poongumoodu- Cheenvila, Malayinkeezhu- Karippur- Thachottukavu- Peyad- Valiyavila- Elippodu stretch. Clear water from PTP Nagar will be then pumped to overhead reservoir.<\/p>\n<p>The project which costs Rs200 crore will be placed before the State Level Scheme Sanctioning Committee for approval. Meanwhile Panchayats have agreed to give 75% of their land for the project.<\/p>\n<p>Trivandrum city faces severe drinking water scarcity during the peak summer time, as water in the Peppara Dam gets depleted.
