Now the department is planning to purchase 20 more interceptors so that the entire State could be covered.<\/p>\n<p>The off-white and blue colour Interceptor vehicle is purchased at a price of <strong>Rs.25 lakh<\/strong> each. The vehicle is equipped with roof-mounted surveillance camera, digital video recorder, a playback device, laptop, printer, siren and even a breathalyser. All the latest gadgets will help MVD officials to check speeding, rash and negligent driving, drunk driving and haphazard parking.<\/p>\n<h4>Also Read |\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/kerala-mvd-too-on-whatsapp\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Kerala MVD too on WhatsApp<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n<p>The laser-gun mounted in the vehicle is able to trace the number plate of the speeding vehicle from a distance of 200 metres during day time and 80 metre at night. It can be made operational even when the vehicle is moving.\u00a0 The wireless printer installed in the vehicle will give digital prints, which will have information such as name of the motorist, driving licence number, vehicle number, place, signature of the driver and the officer.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">The camera can be moved 360 degrees and the video recorder can back-up the videos as evidence. The breathalyser can find whether the motorist is drunk. If the motorist is drunk then there is another test, by blowing through the straw pipe, to know the exact level of alcohol content.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Interceptors were first introduced in the state in the year 2007.\u00a0 Kerala was one of the six States to get the Rs.22 lakh interceptor free from the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE). The vehicles booked 60 lakh cases in total, fetching a fee of Rs.7.5 crore.
