Kovalam has been always the most sought-after tourist destinations for decades. According to the latest data, Kovalam holds the first position as the most visited tourist destination in the state by international tourists.<\/p>\n
The data released by Kerala Tourism<\/a> shows that 1,14,000<\/strong> tourists visited Kovalam<\/a> last year, while Kochi was visited by 1,17,000 people. But among this, more than half of the people were not tourists and they visited Kochi for other purposes. Varkala is the second most popular tourist destination in the district with 48,545<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Even though Kerala has seen an 8% increase in number of inbound tourists, Kovalam has got only 5% increase in number of inbound tourists. Sadly, this is not reflecting on the overall revenue generated from Kovalam. There is a 15% increase in number of hotels and rooms in and around Kovalam, but the hotels witnessed a 20% decline in revenue. This is because most of the international tourists visited Kovalam last year were middle income groups. Majority of international tourist visiting Kovalam are from UK, followed by Russia and Germany.<\/p>\n When it comes to domestic tourists, Kovalam is pushed to second place by Wayanad. Wayanad was visited by 4,10,000 people while 2,70,000<\/strong> people visited Kovalam and 1,70,000<\/strong> people visited Varkala.<\/p>\n Kovalam is a beautiful place with so much potential to become the number one tourist destination in the country.
