Sadly, lack of facilities greets passengers at the railway station.<\/p>\n<p>The modern escalator which was inaugurated with much fanfare has come to a halt as the motors became damaged during the rain the other night. Now the thousands of passengers including handicapped people have to climb the escalator stairs.<\/p>\n<p>Thampanoor railway station doesn\u2019t have enough security measures to ensure the safety of passengers and prevent crimes and terrorist activities.\u00a0 Crores worth modern safety equipments purchased to ensure safe movement of passengers have been out of order for more than one year. The luggage scanner which went out of function is yet to be repaired. Perhaps even more shocking, none of the 80 CCTV cameras installed at the various parts of the station are functional.<\/p>\n<p>The A\/C rest rooms for men and women passengers have been shut down for over a month as the air conditioning system stopped functioning. The 9 room A\/C dormitory for men and the 5 room Ladies hut for women are meant for long distance travellers who arrives at the station late night. The conditions of non-A\/c rest rooms are no different. \u00a0Ceiling fans are out of order and the ceiling itself is in a dilapidated state giving sleepless nights to the passengers.<\/p>\n<p>The air-conditioning system at the Reservation Office is also not functioning for the past 4 months. Fortunately, senior officials at the railway station has said that air-condition system at the Reservation Office will be repaired within a week along with the token system which stopped functioning a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>With the absence of such basic facilities, passengers are facing much hardship at the Central railway station.
