The recent hike in the bus fares has dealt a major blow to the common man. Now KSRTC is likely to double the fares of low floor buses in Trivandrum and Kochi in the near future.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to a steep decline in profit from low-floor buses, a fare hike, which may be almost double the current rate, is likely soon,\u201d a top KSRTC official told \u2018Express\u2019. However, Transport minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan denied knowledge of any such plans.<\/p>\n
Fares in JnNURM-funded buses are hiked occasionally. A regulatory body which includes officials both from the state and Centre decide the ticket rates. The reports say that regulatory body will convene a meeting to revise the fares. The last time the fares of low-floor buses were hiked was on July 2013.<\/p>\n
If the fare hike comes into effect, passengers have to pay around Rs16 in low-floor non-A\/C and Rs 30 in A\/C Volvo buses for the first 5 Kilometre. The current minimum charge for non-A\/C low-floor is Rs8 and for A\/C Volvo is Rs15. \u00a0The minimum fare of City, Ordinary Services, City Fast Services was hiked to Rs7, only a Rupee less than the non-A\/C low floor buses.<\/p>\n
With almost similar rates, it is better to prefer JnNURM buses as it is much more comfortable, clean, user-friendly and faster.<\/p>\n
