30 Days to Freedom<\/strong>, a campaign launched to support the initiative started by the chief minister Shri Oommen Chandy to encourage student entrepreneurs and campus startups.<\/p>\n

For years, the educated youth of our state has been leaving their homes in search of opportunities to build a future for themselves. Their destination were mainly the gulf countries, the United States and also other states of India where the spend a major portion of their life. It is estimated that over 2 million Keralites work outside India. In fact, the remittance made by the Non-resident Keralites contributes to 22% of the state\u2019s GDP. As everybody knows for years, Kerala<\/a> has been looked upon as a state not suited for investment and entrepreneurships. An entrepreneur bold enough to set up a project in Kerala used to face umpteen numbers of hurdles and eventually decide to shift his base to other investor- friendly states.<\/p>\n

But now things are about to change. Against the backdrop of \u2018Emerging Kerala<\/span><\/a>\u2019, the three day event for showcasing Kerala as an investor friendly state a new student Entrepreneurship policy is being formulated. In hi s key note address at the inaugural session of \u2018Emerging Kerala 2012<\/strong>\u2019 Chief Minister Oomman Chandy said, \u00a0\u2018Any student who works to create\u00a0 knowledge, innovations, wealth and jobs in our society through any government of India recognised incubators will be given 20 percent attendance and four percent Grace marks in their academic courses\u201d. He added that our youngsters should be empowered to become job creators and not job seekers<\/a> for Kerala to emerge as a vibrant economy. Kerala has now become the first\u2013state to have \u2018Public Private Partnership (PPP)\u2019 incubators called the \u2018Startup Village<\/strong>\u2019<\/p>\n

It is proposed that Kerala industrial infrastructure development corporation (KINFRA) will provide 1 Lac square Feet for the incubators. By may next year, 25000 Square Feet will be built as first phase. The Chief Minister said that infrastructure in the form of technology<\/a> innovation zone will be created in 10 acres of land in Kochi. The zone will contain other technology areas like telecom, nanotechnology, biotechnology, animation, gaming etc. The space will be provided at low cost, the government will manage the infrastructure and the units will have total operational freedom to pursue their projects. The government<\/a> expects the ventures to grow with seed capital and angel funding.<\/p>\n

Let us hope that this is the beginning of the dawn of a new era where the youth of Kerala leverage their intellectual power and entrepreneurship to build a new vibrant Kerala.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
