Kerala Water Authority has decided to upgrade the sewage treatment plant at Muttathara with modern facility for disposing sludge and to process septage. JnNRUM and KWA have invited tenders to setup the septage treatment plant.<\/p>\n
The proposed septage treatment facility includes a receiving station, control room, odour control system, ventilating shaft, etc. Unlike sewage treatment plant, septage processing will generate foul smell and this can cause inconvenience to the neighbouring locality. To solve this issue, a 9-metre tall air filter which will use carbon will be set up in the STP.<\/p>\n
The septage will be treated along with sewage after it is diluted at the receiving station using the water treated from the sewage treatment plant. Sewage treatment plant releases 26 million litres of water per day, which is currently diverted to Parvathy Puthanar. Around 1mld water is required to treat one load of septage.<\/p>\n
The plant which can handle 107-million litres a day (mld) currently handles only 32 mld of sewage as the sewerage network in the city is yet to be completed. Sewage Plant is designed to meet city\u2019s sewage disposal requirements for the next 25 years.<\/p>\n
Trivandrum is the only city in the state to have a scientific sewage treatment facility. Sewage Plant at Muttathara is also India\u2019s largest and Kerala\u2019s first modern sewage treatment plant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
