The new move will help to the speed-up communication and better supervision of the campus. Already many other zoos located across the country use walkie-talkies. The total cost of enabling zoo-keepers with walkie-talkies is around Rs.5 lakh. Walkie-talkies will be cheaper in the long run as they offer free unlimited medium of communication.<\/p>\n<p>During September last year, Zoo authorities filed an application for the license for frequencies to the Wireless Planning and Coordination wing, functioning under the Department of Telecommunications in New Delhi. After the license was obtained, tenders were invited in from firms for the supply of 25 digital walkie-talkies and 1 digital repeater.<\/p>\n<p>Initially there were concerns about the disruption in communication due to undulating terrain. The police were requested to try their wireless set inside the campus. Even though the police were using analogue devices there were no problems. Thus the use of repeaters that amplifies the radio signal can be avoided.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Zoo campus needs constant monitoring and various emergencies can happen any time.
