The funds necessary for the renovation of the palace are provided by the Union and State governments.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Situated in Nedumangad, 18 km from Trivandrum, Koyikkal Palace is an important stop-over destination for tourists visiting Ponmudi and an itinerary of guided tours.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Palace houses Asia\u2019s largest folklore museum and a numismatic study centre. It houses a vast collection of 17th century rare coins and household utensils such as kitchenware representing the lifestyle of the people in that period.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-19627\" alt=\"Koyikkal Palace Nedumangadu\" src=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/files\/2014\/07\/Koyikkal-Palace-Nedumangadu-768x513.jpg\" width=\"553\" height=\"369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2014\/07\/Koyikkal-Palace-Nedumangadu-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2014\/07\/Koyikkal-Palace-Nedumangadu-222x148.jpg 222w, https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/files\/2014\/07\/Koyikkal-Palace-Nedumangadu.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 553px) 100vw, 553px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Archaeology Department who is in charge of the renovation will start the work by next month. The coins and other artefacts will be put on separate galleries. Currently, they are kept in assorted manner. Other plans include better lighting, setting up of kiosks, repair of roof and setting up an open-air theatre. To prevent theft and fire the museum will have a modern security system.<\/p>\n<p>The total renovation project will cost Rs 4.2 crore of which Rs. 3.5 crore is allotted by the Centre and a sum of Rs. 70 lakh is allotted by the State government. The detailed project report is prepared by the Keralam Museum of History and Heritage.
