The move is as part of the civic body&#8217;s plan to rehabilitate street vendors.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to implement the scheme was taken at the town vending committee meeting held here on Monday. The proposal to provide new stalls to street vendors was mooted by the department of tourism and was backed by the representative of district administration. Civic body will give necessary space within the corporation limit and will provide financial support from its fund allocated for street vendor programme called &#8216;<strong>Suvidha<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The objective of the scheme is to provide a reliable source of livelihood. The road side shops inside East Fort which were installed many years ago have served as a model for effective method of street vending.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTourists could purchase eatables and sit inside the stalls and eat. It\u2019s a traditional concept and the civic body is planning a tie-up with tourism department,&#8221; said Palayam Rajan, chairman, welfare standing committee to TOI.<\/p>\n<p>Town vending committee also decided to redesign the mobile vending carts. An umbrella-shaped fibre sheet will serve as the roof, shielding the cart from rain and heat<strong>.
