With an aim to provide quality service to commuters, Prateeksha Bus Shelters Kerala Ltd (PBSKL) a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of the PWD will construct ultra-modern bus shelters in three cities. \u00a0PWD’s another SPV called the ‘Ashwas Public Amenity Company’ will construct toilets in public spaces.<\/p>\n
Ten new bus shelters will come up in Trivandrum, Kochi and Kozhikode. Proposed sites include East Fort, LMS and Thampanoor in Trivandrum, Vytila mobility hub and Aroor in Kochi and Medical College, Thondayadu in Calicut.<\/p>\n
The double-storied shelters will have drinking water, telephone, fax, Internet, ATM counter, coffee shop, information kiosks, postal facilities, and round-the-clock power supply. There will be a 24×7 help desk to handle emergency situations. The first floor will be air-conditioned. \u00a0The bus shelters will be strategically placed with spacious waiting areas and will have minimum interference with pedestrian traffic.<\/p>\n
The construction will begin by next month. Around 4-5 designs have been finalized. The bus shelter which will have an area of 30sq.m will cost around Rs15-16 lakhs. The structure will be made of stainless steel.<\/p>\n
The bus shelters will be constructed in public-private partnership mode and PBKSL will lease the bus shelters to interested parties for a period of 15 years. The income will be generated through rents and advertisements.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the government has issued orders banning unauthorised construction of bus shelters by political parties and other organizations on PWD roads.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
