Health Minister V S Sivakumar announced the decision on Assembly on Thursday.\u00a0 Preliminary steps are already being taken in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>Linear accelerator used for radiation therapy will be setup at the Trivandrum medical college. Various cancer treatment departments such as the Oncology surgery and Radio therapy surgeries will bring under single department.<\/p>\n<p>For the bystanders of patients coming to the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Regional_Cancer_Centre,_Thiruvananthapuram\" target=\"_blank\">Regional Cancer Centre<\/a> dormitory facilities will be setup. For this, District Collector had been asked to identify suitable land to set up the facility. Upgrading the Regional Cancer Centre to a National Cancer Centre is also on.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from Trivandrum Medical College, five other medical colleges in the state including Thrissur Medical College will also receive mini-RCCs. Malabar Cancer Centre will be upgraded to Regional Cancer Institute and a Tertiary Cancer Centre will be established in Kozhikode.<\/p>\n<p>Latest data shows that nearly 50,000 new cancer cases are reported in Kerala every year. The focus now is to make available cancer treatment facilities in all medical colleges and general hospitals.\u00a0 The government plans to take necessary steps to enhance cancer treatment facilities in medical colleges to provide quality treatment to patients.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Soon Trivandrum Medical College will get a mini-Regional Cancer Centre.
