Union government included Trivandrum in the R-APDRP project two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>R-APDRP is a Rs 50,000-crore nationwide project to bring down ATC (aggregate technical and commercial) losses to 15% in 1,400 towns in the country. If all goes well Trivandrum R-APDRP project will be completed by December next year.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the programme, 137 transformers and 3,000 capacitors will be installed and automatic power factor controller will be installed in 450 transformers in the city. All these will help in resolving the issue of voltage shortage. 11 KV lines will be laid underground along a 440Km stretch. The main advantage of underground cable is that it will help in avoiding security risks. Moreover, there will not be frequent power disruptions because of line breaks.<\/p>\n<p>With the new system, if there is a power failure, <a title=\"KSEB launches Innovation zone at Startup Village\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/kseb-launches-innovation-zone-at-startup-village\/\">KSEB<\/a> can restore the power in just under 2 minutes. For this a modern-control room using &#8216;automatic transformer&#8217; will be setup. \u00a0Automatic street light controller will be used in city&#8217;s street light network. Using this technology, streetlights will switched on and off automatically based on the sunlight intensity. This way instances where streetlights switched on during the day can be avoid thus preventing wastage of electricity.<\/p>\n<p>The total cost of implementing R-APDRP is around <strong>Rs 202 crore<\/strong>.
