As part of its Nirbhaya project initiatives, Kudumbashree Mission has prepared a crime map of the city which shows instances of harassment against women. The crime map will be released at the Kudumbasree\u2019s anniversary celebrations in August.<\/p>\n
Kudumbashree started preparing the maps around two years ago.\u00a0 For the first phase of the project, Kudumbasree volunteers collected and combined information on harassment gathered from the 77 wards and panchayats in Trivandrum. \u00a0Around ten field investigators were appointed from each ward.<\/p>\n
Kudumbashree Mission has prepared a crime map of the city which shows instances of harassment against women. The map will help to assess the crime rate in a specific area in each ward.\u00a0Based on the nature of the harassment, the areas are colour-coded.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The crime map will help to assess the crime rate in a specific area in each ward. The mapping was done in two stages \u2014 issue mapping and crime spotting. Women living in these wards were asked to answer questionnaires about the harassment they had faced in the past 6 months. The details include time and places in which such incidents occurred. \u00a0The harassment includes physical, oral, or gestures.<\/p>\n
Based on the nature of the harassment, the areas are colour-coded. All the field information is collated using specialised crime mapping software. The crime map prepared will be updated as per the meetings convened at the ward level every 3 or 6 month.<\/p>\n
Once the crime map is released, an action plan will be prepared according to the frequency of incidents in a particular area. Ward-level committee members CDS members, field investigators and gender resource persons will be formed to prevent future crimes in the mapped localities. Apart from these, defence mechanisms classes will be held at the neighbourhood group meetings.
