The Cabinet cleared a proposal to set up a state-of-the-art ‘Academic City<\/strong>‘ of international standards in Kerala. The Academic city will be modelled on the lines of Dubai Academic City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We had set up a committee of experts to look into this proposal and after visiting the Dubai Academic City they are convinced that a similar one can be set up in the state,” Chief Minister said in a press meet.<\/p>\n

Three sites have been identified for the project. Two are in Trivandrum – one near the Kerala University campus<\/strong> and another, near the proposed Knowledge City<\/strong> at Thonakkal. The third site is near Calicut University campus<\/strong>. One of these spots will be finalised after a proper study.<\/p>\n

The plan is to develop Academic City as a public limited company called International Academic City of Kerala Limited, and an Academic City Regulatory Authority under the Higher Education Department. The State government will have 25% share in the company.<\/p>\n

An international academic advisory committee, including teachers and scientists from international institutions, will also be formed. The regulatory authority, which will have seven expert members, will be chaired by an educationist. The students who are expected to take admission to these courses would come from abroad, besides from within the state and the country.<\/p>\n

At Dubai Academic City, there are 43,000 students<\/strong> from 137 countries studying in more than 400 different educational programmes. It is playing an important role in developing a knowledge-based economy in the United Arab Emirate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
