The chances of getting a new company to implement the project at an affordable rate are also at minimum.<\/p>\n<p>DMRC has advised to \u201cdischarge\u201d of the tender submitted by a consortium led by Bombardier Transportation Holdings for the elevated MRTS. \u00a0A high level meeting on Thursday will decide the fate of Trivandrum and Kozhikode Monorail projects.<strong> It is reported that Kerala Monorail Corporation Limited (KMCL) will discuss alternative proposals such as the Light Metro, which is a medium capacity mass rapid transit system.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian firm quoted an exorbitant rate of Rs10,392 crore, nearly double the total estimate of Rs5,581 crore prepared by the DMRC. Bombardier has also included Rs 4,000 crore for additional measures in its tender.\u00a0 &#8220;Even if the additional component is taken out, the amount is too high. The board will take a final decision,&#8221; a KMCL official said to TOI.<\/p>\n<p>Sources with the PWD said that Japanese firm Hitachi has expressed interest in the project and is pitching for the Light Metro. Hitachi also offered funding from JICA. Since Light Metro is new in the country, the state government will ask for a detailed project report.<\/p>\n<p>It is also learnt that Shri E Sreedharan is also in favour of Light Metro as the Union Ministry of Urban Development is likely to extend financial support for the project as in the case of the Kochi Metro.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#EnteThiruvananthapuram: The much-hyped monorail project in Trivandrum and Kozhikode are getting axed due to its high project cost.
