In a bid to save Parvathy Puthanar from city’s pollution, Kerala Water Authority has decided to revamp the sewage pumping system located at Kuriathy. The plan is to replace three pump sets at Kuriathy which has become almost defunct, so that sewage could be pumped directly to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Muttathara.<\/p>\n

These pump sets which was established in 2004 often fails leading to discharge of raw sewage to the Parvathy Puthanar. At present there is no sewerage connectivity on the banks of the Parvathy Puthanar with the pumping station.<\/p>\n

The sewage from areas such as Kowdiar, Vellayambalam, Vazhuthacaud, Karamana, Thampanoor, Palayam and Fort reaches the pumping station at Kuriathy and from there it would be pumped to the STP at Muttathara. But when the pump sets at Kuriathy fails, raw sewage is let out to the canal.<\/p>\n

As per the plan, the pump stations will be revamped by providing flood proof submersible pumps with generators.\u00a0 The procurement of new generation pumps and a generator will alone cost around Rs 2 crore. Apart from this, the authorities will also conduct a survey to identify houses that dumps raw sewage to canal. Feasibility of laying a sewer line in the Thallial and Arannoor areas will also be considered.<\/p>\n
