The reconstructed stretch of the Airport-Palayam corridor passing through Chackai is becoming an accident zone to motorists.<\/strong> Since the stretch from Chackai to Shankumugham is a straight and smooth road, motorists cruise at very high speeds. The lack of divider along the stretch increases the chance of head-on collisions with the incoming traffic.<\/p>\n

Local people who reside in the area have requested authorities to construct a median along the line on multiple occasions. But the authorities declined their request and installed a speed-breaker instead. However, accidents still happen at other places along the stretch.<\/p>\n

The officials promised to curb over speeding by placing speed breakers. However, the result was 5-6 flex boards came at the region showing over speeding\/bike racing is punishable.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Recently (03\/10\/2014), an XUV 500 carrying 6 youths including 2 girls met with an accident on this stretch at around 4 pm in the afternoon. The vehicle crashed into a nearby bus stop after hitting an electric post. According to the people who witnessed the accident, the vehicle which was driven by a girl was cruising at a speed of 100-120Km\/hr. Upon seeing an unexpected speed-breaker, the driver of the XUV turned the car suddenly, causing the accident. Miraculously, no one was seriously hurt and the passengers escaped with minor bruises.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first accident that’s happened here. Earlier this year, a terrible accident near GV Raja junction<\/a> took the life of a 14-year old girl named Shilpa. She was travelling with her family when a car hit them. Shilpa died on the spot.\u00a0And during last year’s Christmas a youth lost his life during bike race.\u00a0The officials promised to curb over speeding by placing speed breakers. Let this accident serve as a warning. If necessary measures are taken, such accidents can be avoided in the future. Majority of the accidents that happen in our state are caused due to head-on collision. If we can place divider on our roads, we could bring down the accident rate.
