Once a beautiful city, Trivandrum is now suffocating with garbage everywhere, which is indeed a sad state of affairs. Though many attempts have been made in the past, waste management continues to be a major headache.<\/p>\n
To tackle this issue, the Corporation of Trivandrum and Kudumbashree have joined hands to form a project named \u201cCapital City \u2013 Clean City\u201d<\/strong>. The idea for the project was conceived by a group of like-minded IT professionals who are concerned about the development of our state. The group is known as team IAK and they are the driving force behind this initiative.<\/p>\n Saddened by the plight of our capital city, IAK decided to do something about the burning issue. They brainstormed with the Corporation, Kudumbashree and a private company- V-care. The result was Nirmal Kiosks where people can dispose their garbage paying only Rs5 per kilo of waste. The kiosk will receive garbage from 7am to 10am.<\/p>\n Before bringing the garbage you have to sort and segregate bio-degradable waste from plastic. For those who find it inconvenient to approach Nirmal Kiosk, they can avail the services of Kudumbashree workers who will come to their doors-steps to take away the garbage at Rs6 per kilo. The garbage received at Nirmal Kiosk will be used for agriculture purposes in big farms. The first Nirmal Kiosk was installed at Karamana recently and the Corporation plans to setup 10 more such kiosk at various parts of the city.<\/p>\n
