After a long wait of 4 years, Karamana-Kaliyikkavila road widening project will officially start on October 24. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the road widening project at 4pm on Friday and the work will start from the next day onwards.<\/p>\n
In the first phase, the stretch between Karamana and Pravachambalam will be widened. The widening project has been awarded to Sree Dhanya Constructions at a cost of Rs40 crore. PWD and the construction company will sign the agreement next week.<\/p>\n
A major part of land acquisition has been completed and only some minor portions at some regions are left to be acquired. An amount Rs 285 crore has been given as compensation to the persons from whom land was acquired for the widening of the road. Meanwhile, land clearing\u00a0process on the stretch is progressing in full swing.<\/p>\n
The 29.2Km road will be widened to a 4 -lane stretch with a width of 30 meter. Footpath will be constructed on both sides of the road and there will be a separate duct for cable and water. A 3-meter wide median will be constructed so as to allow vehicle to take u-turn without causing traffic disturbance. Along with street lights, beautiful flowering plants will be planted in the median.<\/p>\n
The total road widening project from Karamana to Kaliyikkavila is expected to cost Rs 640 crore. Directives have been issued for speeding up the acquisition of land for the second phase of road widening from Pravachambalam to Vazhimukku.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
