Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB) is all set to embark on a study to map noise levels across the entire Corporation area of Trivandrum. The decision came after it was found that noise levels in the city have increased manifold over the past decade.<\/p>\n
The mapping will focus on two parameters- traffic in the area and concentration of buildings. This will be the first time mapping would be done on a large scale in a city in India.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Some studies have been conducted in the past but a comprehensive analysis is yet to happen. This will be the first time mapping would be done on a large scale in a city in India. The study will take 6 months to complete.<\/p>\n
The mapping will focus on two parameters- traffic in the area and concentration of buildings. The current decibel levels will be matched with the traffic density and building concentration in certain area. This data can be valuable in noise mitigation measures as well as in urban planning. Based on the findings projections will be made for the next five years.<\/p>\n
Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB) says that they have been receiving several complaints from individuals and associations regarding loudspeakers set up by religious institutions and political parties. However PCB only has powers to take action only in the case of industrial noises. Only local police can take action against such practises. Some of the vehicle horns are also beyond the permissible limits. In that case, the Motor Vehicle Department has to take action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
