The department will procure modern equipment and vehicles at a cost of Rs.26.48 crore. The equipment and vehicles are being purchased using the Rs.11.48-crore one-time Additional Central Assistance (ACS) and the remaining from the Annual Plan Fund for 2014-15.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, fire Force was given Rs.22.50 crore as one-time ACS, of which Rs.11.48 crore remained unspent. Of this, Rs.8.5 crore would be used to procure &#8216;Aerial Platform&#8217; ladder which is a foldable mechanised ladders that can reach a height of 55 to 60 metres. The ladder will be able to go up to 20 floors. The initial proposal is to procure one each for Trivandrum, Kochi and Kozhikode.<\/p>\n<p>Fire force will also purchase 3 emergency rescue tender (ERT) vehicles 90 aluminium gloves, 75 chain saws, 8 leakage arrester kits, 5 multi-gas detectors, and 15 airlifting bags using the remaining ACS funds. The approved procurement list include\u00a0 8 water tenders, 20 ambulances, 60 jeeps, 15 hydraulic rescue tools, 10 scuba sets with spare cylinders, 6 portable air compressors, 10 high pressure portable pumps, 8 high pressure kits, 76 chain saws, 5 inflatable tents, 4 jumping cushions and 750 cots.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from these, Kerala Fire Force will train children above 12 years in swimming and the youth in basics in fire fighting and water rescue. Rs.80,000 will be given to each Fire station for the training programme. Fire Force also plans to erect a memorial to the fire services personnel who lost their lives while on duty at Chakka Station.<\/p>\n<p>At present the fire fighters lack necessary equipments and protective gear for rescue operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kerala Fire and Rescue Services is all set to undergo major modernisation.
