Uber \u2013 the world’s leading driver service announced its arrival in Kochi. With the launch, Kochi has become the 11th city in the country that the popular taxi and ridesharing service has a presence in.<\/p>\n

The US-based start-up announced its arrival in Kochi by pushing a secret fleet in the city and letting few privileged users take the Ride Zero, flagging off the service in the city.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“In a multi-faceted city like Kochi where transportation alternatives are few and far between, Uber is truly everyone’s private driver – bringing its hassle-free, safe, reliable, and affordable transportation to every local and tourist in town,”<\/em> noted Uber’s official blog post.<\/p>\n

Launched in 2009 Uber is a ridesharing service based in San Francisco. Uber connects passengers to a background-checked driver via a smartphone app. Uber is simply a booking platform, and the cars are not operated by the company.<\/p>\n

Uber said that the roll out is in initial phase and customers should expect longer ETAs as currently only few cars are deployed on the streets. The company also plans to start its cheaper service variant UberX<\/strong> in the city in the near future.\u00a0 Going forward, it also plans to launch its ultra cheap variant UberGo<\/strong>, based on the response it gets from the users.<\/p>\n

The Base fare starts at Rs35 and charges Rs15 for every kilometre. Minimum fare should be Rs70. There is also a cancellation fee of Rs70.<\/p>\n

In Kochi, Uber will be competing with Taxio,<\/a> a radio taxi service that offers point-to-point, airport and outstation services. Uber is also the first among the top 4-5 online cab booking services companies to launch operations in Kochi.<\/p>\n

Uber, which started its operations in India in October last year, is already present in Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Jaipur, New Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Currently Uber operates across 50 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n
