The Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Ltd (TRDCL), the project implementing agency of CRIP, will undertake the beautification project along the 300 metre stretch.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to widen the stretch began 8 years ago. But the widening project got delayed over the issue of axing 54 trees located along the stretch. Finally the Tree Protection Committee finally agreed to fell 18 trees.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Once completed, the road will have 7 meter carriageway on either side of the median. While the median itself will have a width of 1 to 2.5 metres so as to accommodate the remaining trees. There will also be 2-metre wide paved footpaths on either side.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>TRDCL is currently working on widening of the stretch by covering the portion of canal by placing prefabricated boxes. An extra 7 meter can be added to the existing road by covering the portion of the canal.<\/p>\n<p>The widening is done by placing prefabricated C-shaped boxes over the canal. Before placing the c-shaped boxes, TRDCL will compact the canal by laying red earth. After that 15cm layer of concrete will be laid. TRDCL has conducted similar works over Amayizhanchan canal at Panavila-Bakery Junction stretch before the construction of the Bakery Junction flyover.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the company is waiting for shifting of utilities lines like pipes and cables from the location.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Vanchiyoor to Uppidamoodu stretch is all set to undergo a massive makeover at a cost of Rs6 crore.
