Trivandrum Medical College (MCH) will soon become a centre of excellence in medical research and education. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy made the announcement at the inauguration of the second unit of the Cardiac ICU and the Drug Quality Testing Laboratory at the Medical College.<\/p>\n
An amount of Rs 15 crore<\/strong> will be earmarked in the next state budget for upgrading Medical College to the status of a centre of excellence. The amount will be used for the overall development of the Medical College.<\/p>\n A master plan that focuses on strengthening infrastructure, improvement of laboratories, upgrading the various departments and roping in new technologies has already been envisaged for upgrading the Trivandrum Medical College Hospital. If all goes well, Trivandrum Medical College will become the first Medical College in the state to get Centre of excellence status.<\/p>\n Government also have plans to start drug quality testing laboratories in the medical colleges and also the regional laboratories at Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Pathanamthitta to ensure drug quality.<\/p>\n “Once the drug testing labs are set up about 30,000<\/strong> batches of medicines can be tested for quality in the state.” said Health Minister VS Sivakumar.<\/p>\n When the project is realized, Kerala will become the will become the only state in the country to have the largest number of drug quality testing labs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Trivandrum Medical College (MCH) will soon become a centre of excellence in medical research and education.
