In a bid to prevent water logging in the East Fort area, the government has decided to construct a storm water drainage channel that stretches from Pazhavangadi to the Thekkanamkara canal.<\/p>\n
The storm water drainage channel will be built by the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB). Water logging in the SS Kovil Road will be prevented by providing an underground pipeline parallel to the railway line connecting Thampanoor to the Uppidamoodu Bridge. This work will be included in the Kerala State Urban Development Project.<\/p>\n
Other measures being taken to prevent water logging is raising the road by 4-40cm on the Gandhi Park side and up to 25cm on the other side of Pazhavangadi Junction.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the shifting of the median at East Fort is progressing in full swing with the profile correction. The median is being shifted to regulate buses and to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles along the stretch. 30 shops situated close to the Fort wall will be relocated and the Pazhavangadi -East Fort-Attakulangara stretch will be widened to accommodate 6-lane traffic as per the CRIP.<\/p>\n
A bus bay will be constructed to accommodate 15 buses. A 2-lane, 7.5metre wide carriageway, with a two-metre-wide waiting area, will be created. To avoid traffic block, single entry and single exit system will be implemented. A new, temporary bus bay will be set up at East Fort near the existing facility.
