The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will open the EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) bid for the 4-laning of the Kazhakuttam-Mukkola stretch of the NH 66 bypass on December 16.<\/p>\n
NHAI decided to go for Engineering Procurement Construction mode after the build operate transfer (BOT) mode failed due to poor response from companies. On December 16 the financial and technical bids for the 22.5 km from Kazhakuttam to Mukkola, on the Balaramapuram-Vizhanjam road, will be opened, NHAI said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, decks have been cleared to give the Rs.167-crore compensation for those surrendering land for the widening project at Chenkal and Karode villages. With this, completion of land acquisition for the remaining stretch of the 43.62-km bypass had been cleared. The total compensation sanction for land acquisition was Rs.440.86 crore for 1,659 persons in 5 villages.<\/p>\n
The 4-laning project includes construction of 4 major bridges, including a new two-lane one at Akkulam, a Rail-over-bridge at Chakka, 60 culverts for draining water and 11 underpasses. The construction of ROB and alignment of 2 lanes in front of the International Airport are expected to create some difficulty to the project.<\/p>\n
The stretch is part of the 212-km NH-47 bypass project of the NHAI which started in 1974. Though government had acquired land for the four-lane project, with a width of 45 metre, the work got delayed owing to several issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
