However, for many years now, it has been functioning as a parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>Now a group of artistes in the city have joined hands to reclaim this space and turn it once again into a stage that celebrates art and culture. Artists\u2019 affiliated to groups such as the Abhinaya, Trivi Art Concerns, A Place for Theatre and Indus Cycling Embassy have formed a group called <a href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/cultural-recreation-centre-at-manaveeyam-road-kwa-says-no\/\" target=\"_blank\">Manaveeyam Theruvorakuttam<\/a> with a mission to reclaim its cultural space.<\/p>\n<p>The organization is hosting a poster competition in the city on December 4 to promote Manaveeyam Veedhi as a permanent venue for cultural events. A human chain will be formed and a cultural evening held on December 14 in support of the idea.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21593\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21593\" class=\"wp-image-21593 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/files\/2014\/12\/Manaveeyam-Road.jpg\" alt=\"Manaveeyam Road\" width=\"630\" height=\"425\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21593\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An artist\u2019s impression of the place. Photo Courtesy: The Hindu<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Manaveeyam Theruvorakuttam is demanding for making the area a no-parking zone and to give the space for hosting cultural and social activities. They also demand to make the area free of traffic on Sundays from evening 4pm to 9pm. Manaveeyam Theruvorakuttam plans to screen documentaries and other cultural shows in the evening. Manaveeyam Theruvorakuttam is also mooting for a mobile library for children and to host sales and exhibitions more often.<\/p>\n<p>Government has plans to turn Manaveeyam Veedhi into a food street with a novel project called \u201c<strong>Food on Wheels<\/strong>\u201d. The project aims to launch late-night street food outlets in the city. With the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/food-on-wheels-late-night-street-food-outlets-in-trivandrum-kochi-and-kozhikode\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Food on Wheels<\/a>\u2019 Manaveeyam Veedhi will spring to life at 10 pm giving the capital city a boost to its nightlife.<\/p>\n<p>Manaveeyam Veedhi took shape in the year 2001 as a State Cultural Affairs Department\u2019s initiative to support artistes in the State and to make art more accessible to the public.
