The issues related to the Light Metro projects for Trivandrum and Kozhikode projects were raised in a high-level meeting of MLAs with the Chief Minister and other ministers along with DMRC officials.<\/p>\n
The meeting was convened in the wake of concerns raised by MLA’s over the switchover from monorail to light metro and the technology and viability of the project. The MLA’s demanded that the concerns associated with the implementation of these projects should be addressed first.<\/p>\n
MLA Palode Ravi said that DMRC gave no satisfactory explanation for winding up the project. Principal Advisor Sreedharan said the monorail project was abandoned as the cost per km came to Rs.381 crore<\/strong> compared to Rs.130 crore in the estimates. The MLAs also pointed out that with the project cost may go up further when the project is finally implemented.<\/p>\n Meeting also discussed about route for Phase I, land acquisition, Rs.6,728 crore needed for completion by 2021, fare and funding options. If the project is not based on PPP model Central clearance would be needed.Sreedharan made a presentation on the detailed project report prepared by the DMRC for the project to be executed in 35.12 km in the two cities.
